Mary mother of Peace bless all of us for 2014

Mary Mother of God 01-01-14 The world day of Peace Our Spiritual Pilgrimage in Mary!!!!! 1st Reading Numbers 6:22-27 Blessing with God’s Name! 2nd Reading Galatians 4:4-7 Jesus coming in to this world has enabled us to be daughters/sons of God! Gospel Luke 2:16-21 Naming of Jesus! What a joy for all of us to see another year, a year called 2014, a year of immense possibilities, We are able to wish each one a happy New Year.! This has become possible for all of us because God has allowed us to be called one family as chosen people. At the beginning of every year the pilgrimage of our spiritual journey begins. And it is possible in Mary our Mother and the Mother of Jesus and the Mother of the Church!!! The family which has been given a Name which means something special, it is not because of our worthiness but because of the gratuitous gift of faith!!!! A chosen people we have become. What a privilege, let us wish each other because Jesus has become our brother and Mother Mary our mother. In the first reading we see how God said to Moses that they could be special because when Aaron would bless the people placing his Name over them which would allow them to be special. This is a special choice not only for the Israelites but all the people who would be chosen in Jesus. This becomes clearer in the second reading where Saint Paul so beautifully tells the Galatians how they have been saved by Jesus love! The whole of the Gospel is a revelation of God’s wonderful love for mankind. We see the special choice of Mary to be the mother of God. Her submission to God’s will facing so many difficulties of social order. People come to know that though she is betrothed to Joseph she is showing the signs of being already with child! Once she has realized that this was because of the power of the Holy Spirit. She humbly surrenders to whatever that may be the consequence. Even Joseph who is a just man wants to put her away quietly. He too submits to God’s will. She eventually names Jesus with the name that was given by God the father himself!!!!! We see today how each one who has been granted to be the child of God. We have to constantly submit to God’s will. It is not easy for us Christians to be like Mary. When difficulties arise we always say oh we are human beings we cannot be like Mary!!!!!! But God who loves each of us when we submit to his will makes every thing easy and possible. Only one has to submit to the will of God!!! We may be placed in any place and situation, may be in factories, in offices, in administration, in government establishments, in places. it may be difficult to openly profess our faith!!!!! God grants us to submit to his will. if we are able to see it in all sorts of situation!!!! That is why there are so many movements which have been publicly testifying to God’s presence in their lives!!!! Have we the courage to accept this challenge and understand what Jesus told his disciples when he was departing to his Father “ I am with you even to the ends of time” When we wish each other a happy new year shall we remember the year 2014 will bring us many possibilitie. this will be a better year for all of us with lots of hope because God has permitted us to see this new year. This already is a special invitation for all of us to be one with Him. Thus when we are invited by the universal church through our holy Father the Pope to be instruments of Peace!! How shall we be the sign and symbol of peace? By our own lives as testimonies of God’s presence like Mary!!!! Whenever we attend the Eucharistic celebration, at the end of each celebration there is a blessing where the priest or the celebrant blesses the whole assembly. This allows us to be possessed of the power of Almighty God!! What a privilege that we are carrying in us God!! 4th Sunday in Advent 2013 Cycle A

4th Sunday in Advent 2013 Theme: Mary’s ‘YES’ “GOD WITH US” 1st Reading Isaiah 7:10-14 “Emmanuel” God with us foretold. 2nd Reading Rom 1:1-7 Christ in Faith grants grace and peace. Gospel Mt 1:18-24 Mary’s Child is Emmanuel ‘God is with us’. Christ’s birth is the fulfillment of many prophesies of Old Testament. A new dimension of revelation has unfolded to us after the expectant wait for the Messiah. All three readings indicate a reenactment of an extra ordinary event in salvation history. Salvation history is a drama. A Drama of God’s immense love for you & me. He created us. In creating he had a wonderful act of giving us his own image. We tarnished this God image, by disobedience. Isaiah fore-tells what a virgin will bring forth. A male child. She will name him Emmanuel. The meaning, ‘God is with us’. What a tremendous miracle. We human beings are able to live along with God. Who has come to be with us by the fiat of Mary who too was, waiting for the Messiah. Only she could discern the event so easily. She was always in the presence of the Lord. When the real invitation came, she knew it would have such a disastrous repercussions on her character. Once she knew it was God’s will she willingly accepted. Mary said, “I am the hand maid of the lord, let it be done according to your word.” We as chosen people have lived three weeks of preparation for the Lord. Our waiting is coming to an end. We have to respond to the grace of our Masters’ entry into this world. When we witness this event on Christmas. Our patient waiting has to emerge into a tremendous hope. When I meet you and others, to wish ‘Happy Christmas’ this wishing, will not just be words, but an expression of our intimate encounter with the Lord. The acceptance of Mary as the mother of Emmanuel brings another complication in the person of Joseph. He becomes aware of this mysterious birth. Though he is aware of this he does not want to put Mary to any inconvenience. So quietly as any human being wants to just bring this whole issue to a very quiet end. Then God intervenes in his life and tells him to accept Mary as his wife and bring Jesus up as his son. Once he becomes aware of the sublime event, he obeys to God’s command and goes ahead. It would make him a laughing stalk in the eyes of society. But now he is willing to face the music. What a tremendous faith???? We hardly have seen a person of such integrity and personality, giving up his own will to submit to the will of some one else???? Let us now meditate on the great event as we get ready to welcome Christ in a few days time. We have indeed begun the novena for the great event. Don’t we participate in novenas of any kind? This novena of inviting Jesus as a baby in our life must allow us to become like little children? We can stand in wonder at the mystery of our salvation. We live this wonder in faith as people called to witness to the faith. We will do so this courageously and lovingly. Wishing all a happy Sunday in the fourth week in Advent. आगमन का चॊथा रविवार साल A 2013 विशय: "मॆं प्रभु की चरणदासी" इसाइया प्रवादी के ग्रंथ में से पहला पाठ: 7:10-14 ईश्वर हमारे संग "इमानुएल". संत पाउलुस के रोमियों के नाम पत्र में से दूसरा पाठ 1:1-7 ईसा मसीह से हमें क्रपा ऒर शांति का वरदान मिलता हॆ/ संत मत्ती के सु-समाचार में से:1:18-24 मरियम से हमें "इमानुएल" मिले/. पुराना व्यवस्तान की पूर्णता ईसु ख्रिस्त के जन्म से हुई/ हमारे जीवन में ईसा का प्रवेश हमें एक नये युग का अनुभव कराता हॆ/ इतिहास हमें हमारे मुक्तिकी कहानी को दर्शाता हॆ/ आज के तीनों पाठ ऎतिहासिक मुक्ति की काहानी को हमें समझाते हॆं/ हमारे मुक्ति की बातें हमारे धार्मिक पुस्तकों में कूट कूट कर भरा गया हे/ बाइबिल ईश्वर के अपरिमित प्यार की कहानी को हमें समझाता हॆ/ बाइबिल के हर अक्षर में हमारे जीवन की कहानी हॆ/ हमें किस प्रकार से ईश्वर ने रचा इसे वहां बताया गया हॆ/ हम सब ईश्वर के प्रतिरूप हॆं/ इस प्रतिरूप को हम ने हमारे अहंकार के कारण दूशित किया/ आज का पहला पाठ हमें एक कुंवारी के गर्भाधारण की कहानी बताता हॆ/ वह कुंवारी एक बालक को जन्म देगी/ उसका नाम इम्मानुएल होगा/ इम्मानुएल का अर्थ ईश्वर हमारे साथ/ क्या यह एक अद्भुत अचरज नहीं? हम अकिंचन मानव ईश्वर के साथ जीने के अधिकारि बन गये हॆं/ जब मा मरियम ने नम्रता से कहा "मॆं प्रभु की दासी हूं" यह सत्य संभव हुआ/ जॆसे हम ऒर आप ईश्वर के आगमन की बाट जो रहे हॆं उसी प्रकार मां मरियम भी मुक्ति दाता के प्रतीक्षामें रत थी/ वह ईश्वर की वाणी को पहचान सकी/ क्या हम अपने जीवन में ऎसे तत्पर रहें गे कि जब ईश्वर की वाणी हमें किसी कार्य के लिए पुकारे गी हम कह पाएं गे कि, "मॆं तॆयार हूं"/ मरियम को पता था कि उसकी वह "हां" जीवन भर उसे लोगों के सामने लज्जा का कारण होगा/ फिर भी वह पीछे न हटी/ इस संसार में अनेक लोग अ्भि भी ऎसे हॆं जो इस सत्य को नहीं अपनाना चाहते. हम भई-बहनों को अपने विश्वास के संदेश को लोगों के सामने दर्शाने का इससे अच्छा समय कब आयेगा? अब हमारे जीवन में आगमन के लिए प्रतीक्षा करने का समय पूरा हो गया/ मुक्तिदाता तो इस संसार में प्रतिश्टित हुए/ क्या मेरे जीवन में उनका आगमन स्च्छे अर्थ में हो पाया हॆ? जब हम हमारे सगे संबधियों को मित्र आदियों को खुश ईसा जयंती का त्योहार मांगेंगे तो उनका हामारे जीवन में सच्छे अर्थ में प्रवेष दर्शायेगा/ मां मरियम ऒर संत योसेफ के समान हम हमारे ह्रदय द्वारों को मुक्त रख कर उनका स्वागत करें/ उन दोनों ने अंधकार में ईश्वर की वाणी को सुना ऒर उस पर अमल कर्ने की ठानी/ दोनों के जीवन में अनेक ऎसे संदर्भ आंयेंगे कि उन्हें लोगों के सामने हंसी के पात्र बनना होगा/ कुंवारा बाप ऒर कुंवारी मां कहलाना समाज में एक कलंक का विषय होगा/ हम कितनी बार डर से अपने विश्वास को छुपा रखते/ मां मरियम ऒर योसेफ से हम प्रेरणा लें ऒर अपने विश्वास को द्रढ बनाने का प्रयास करें/ हमारा विश्वास सदा सुद्रढ हो/ आपका हितॆषी फादर जुजे वास एस.वि.डी.

आगमन का तीसरा रविवार साल A 2013 विषय:: "धीरज" विश्वासियों का मार्ग दर्शक योहन बप्तिस्ता/ इसाइया प्रवादि के पुस्तक में से पहला पाठ: 35:1-6a, 10: मुक्तिदाता का आगमन बहुत परिवर्तन लायेगा/ संत याकूब के पत्र में से दूसरा पाठ: 5:7-10 धीरज मुक्तिदाता की प्रतीक्षा का प्रतीक/ संत मत्ती के सु-समाचार में से पाठ: 11:2-11 ईसा कहते कि योहन बपतिस्ता महान/ विश्वासि यों के लिए आगमन का तीसरा रविवार बहुत सारी क्रपाओं का खजाना लाया हॆ/ हम सुनेंगे कि मुक्तिदाता दूर नहीं हॆ/ विश्वासियों को विभिन्न अच्छी बातों को अपनाने का निमंत्रण दिया गया हॆ/ हर विश्वासि को, धीरज, भाइचारा, शांति, सद्भावना, न्याय आदि सद्गुण उनके जीवन लाना चाहिए/ हम स्वाभाविक रूप से अच्छाई का अनुकरण करने की कोशीष करते रहते/ पर यह प्रयास अक्सर बहुत ही कष्ट्मई होता हॆ/ ऎसे समय हमें हमारे प्रयासों को ऒर मझबूत करना हॆ/ इस संसार में जीवन बिताते समय अनेक परीक्षायें हमारे प्रयासों को डगमगया करती/ इस लिए हर विश्वासि को सचेत अवस्ता से अपने क्रपा के जीवन को मजबूति देने की कोशीष करना चाहिए/ संग दोषों से बचने के लिए हमें सदा जीवन के लक्ष्य को हमारे आंखों के सामने रख कर चलना चाहिए/ तीनों पाठ ह्में आज हमें ईश्वर को हमारे जीवन प्रमुख स्थान देने की सलाह देते/ हमारे जीवन में ईश्वर हमेशा अपनी क्रपा से सींचते हॆं/ ईसाइया नबी हमें आज के पाठ में ईश्वर के अंनंत प्यार का सबूत देता हॆ/ अनेक अचरजों से ईश्वर हमारे हर गुनाओं को दूर करता हॆ/ ईश्वर हमारी द्र्ष्टि का गुण बता कर हमारें जीवन में उसके उपस्तिति का अनुभव कराता हॆ/ हमारे विक्रत अंगों को पूर्ण करता हॆ/ पूरी प्रक्रति को ईश्वर अपने पूर्णता से भर देता हॆ/. पापों का भारी बॊज वह अनदेखा कर हमें माफ करने तत्पर रहता हॆ/ इस तस्वीर को हम इसाइया नबी के पाठ में देखते हॆं/ इसाइया नबी बताते हॆं कि ईश्वर के आने पर सब नया बनेगा/ हिरणी नाचने लगेगी, बच्चे सांप के बिल के सामने खेलने लगेंगे, ऒर सिंह के बच्चे घास खाने लगेगा/ दुख दूर होगा, सब कुछ नया बन जायेगा/ संत याकूब हमें एक किसान का उदाहरण देकर ईश्वर के आने का सबूत देता हॆ/ जिस प्रकार एक किसान अपनी खेती को धीरज की नींव पर अपनी कटाई का इंतजार करता हॆ/ सदियों से मुक्तिदाता के आगमन की विविध रीती से राह देखी गई हॆ/ 1. मुक्तिदात एक महान राजा होंगे/ 2. वे दाऊद से भी महान होंगे/ 3. वे ईस्रएली जनता की महानता को पुन: स्थापित करेंगें/ जब वास्तव में मुक्ति दाता का आगमन हुआ तब वह एक अचरज करने वाला ही रहा/ वह जब पापियों के साथ खाने पीने लगे / वह जगह जगह जाकर लोगों को उपदेश देने लगे/ लोग मुक्तिदाता का अनुसरण करने लगे/ सु-समाचार तो मुक्तिदाता के इसी आगमन की एक झलक देता हॆ/ जब मुक्तिदाता विविध जगहों पर अपनी शिक्षा का प्रचार कर रहे थॆ, तब योहन बप्तिस्ता जेल में थे? उन्होंने येसू के पास अपने शिश्यों को भेज कर पूछने लगे "क्या आप मुक्तिदाता हॆं, तो उन्हें बताने का पहल करें"/ येसू शिश्यों के प्रश्न का सीधा उत्तर तो नहीं देते/ वे कहते हॆं कि वे उनके कार्य का बखान योहन करें/ येसू योहन को एक महान नबी का स्थान देते हॆं/ सभी नबियों के नामों में उनका नाम पहले स्थान पर रहेगा/ येसू योहन बप्तिस्ता को एक संदेश वाहक के रूप में देखते हॆं/ पुराने व्यवस्तान में संदेश वाहक एक विशिस्ठ स्थान रखते थे/ मुझे ऒर आप को इस संसार में एक अच्छे गवाह के रूप में अपना स्थान लेना हे/ हमें ईश्वर के मुक्तिदाता के हमारे जीवन में आने का स्पश्ठ संदेश लोगों के सामने प्रस्तुत करना हॆ/ ह्में अब आगमन के समय अपने विश्वास के सबूत को लोगों के सामने लाना हॆ/ ईसा के हमारे जीवन में प्रवेश की कहानी को हमें साहस के साथा बताना हॆ/ आइए हम अपने जीवन को सार्थक बना कर जीने का प्रयास करें/ यह समय हमारें जीवन का सुंदर समय हो/ आपका हितॆषी फादर जुजे वास एस.वि.डि.

ADVENT 15-12- 2013 BELIEVERS GUIDE FOR ADVENT '"PATIENT WAITING"


Sunday in Advent A 2013 Theme: “Patience” Believer’s Guide in Advent. 1st Reading Is 35:1-6a, 10: When the savior comes every thing will change 2nd Reading James 5:7-10 Patiently wait for the Lord Gospel Mathew: 11:2-11Jesus acknowledges John Baptist’s greatness. We are alreay in the III week of Advent. A time that shows the savior is not very far. We are advised to practice, virtues of patience, justice and charity, magnanimity, goodness, kindness, and compassion. Often we try to be good. Our may become weary. At such times we have to reaffirm our desire to be good. There are so many temptations on the road to spiritual progress. Unless we Christians consciously try to live this our life may become like those around us. The influence of our neighbors on every aspect of our lives is very real. The scriptural passages of today reveals to us how God enters into our lives. God wants us to co-operate in his divine plan of salvation Isaiah reveals to the people and to us today that God cares for us. How God will restore so many defects in us by his miraculous action. He will restore our vision. Our defective limbs to its wholeness. This is possible because God, wants his creation which he has created, to be whole. Though we might destroy the life by our sinful nature he still keeps us in his love. The picture we find in Isaiah is so perfect that even a lame deer will leap with joy. All will gather in Jerusalem and shout with joy and gladness, God will escort them. Sorrow will be put to flight. In the second reading we find St. James telling us to exercise patience like a farmer. The picture we have of a farmer. After the farmer sows or tills his field he patiently waits for its harvest. He works day and night taking care of the field. This picture we have seen many times in our lives. We live in the towns we hardly have seen a real farmer doing his job. Then most of the farmers have stopped farming The farmland has become fallow. So our idea of patience of a farmer is only from films. So patience experience shown from the fartmer for us is onl make believe. In the Gospel we find two pictures. One of the Baptist, who is in prison, he must have had some idea of the Messiah. The popular view was that.. 1. the savior would be a great king. 2. Who would be greater than David. 3. Who would restore the Israel to it’s pristine glory. But here was a person who was working miracles. Dining with the sinners. Going from place to place. People were following him. Now John sends his disciples to enquire about Jesus Jesus does not answer them directly. He asks them to see the signs they see and go and report to John who he is. And Jesus speaks of John in glowing words. He calls him greatest of the prophets. Jesus quotes the OT and says he is a “messenger” of the one who is to come. Jesus answers them with a picture of miracles that have been wrought by him. These should make Baptist believe that the Messiah has in fact arrived. For us in this world the mission is to announce the experience of Jesus we have had. Are we convinced that we have met him. Or are we still groping in darkness not knowing whom we are looking for. The encounter with Jesus and his mission must keep us occupied with the values of the Kingdom. Often we go from place to place. From one religious experience to another. From one testimony to another. Our attachment to Jesus is it permanent.or transitory? Let us decide during this Advent. If we indeed find the messiah and are able to recognize him ourselves, let us rejoice. With this in view let us participate in this Eucharist where Jesus lives in person. 33rd Sunday of the Year C Theme Our Future 17-11-13

33rd Sunday in the Ordinary Time Year C Theme: Our Future 17-11-2013 1st Reading Mal 3:19-20b God will spare the Faithful at End Time. 2nd Reading 2nd Thess 3:7-12 Misconception of End time People of Thessalonica abandon their jobs and wait for the end. Gospel Lk 21:5-19 Jesus foretells the End time and the trials to come. When we are here on earth we have noticed how things move. We go to a movie we are eager to know what would be the end of the movie. When we read a book or a novel or a story often we see what is the end of the story, novel and the book. Some of us even look at the end and read the end part first and then the beginning. This is the human nature which is eager to know its’ future. Today’s readings are indication to this reality, In the first reading Malachi proclaims the just will enter into eternity. The evil will be like the stubble to be burnt in the eternal fire. We see prophet condemning evil of the time in various ways. Here he uses the local jargon to instruct the Israelites to abandon evil and return to be good. The repeated exhortation should enable them to look at the positive side of the life to come. Even today the evil we encounter demands a sense of goodness to overcome evil. For which the faithful have to be listening to the voice of the spirit which will enhance the truth for which one has to strive day and night leaving behind the evil which surrounds us and tempts us to look for easy ways. In the whole book of Malachi he has a dialogue how a God who is just see the evil thrive? But he is sure at the end the evil will be defeated and good will triumph. On the last Day the evil doers will burn in a furnace. This is the first sign of a hell in the Old Testament. The good will shine out as shining stars. A sign of heaven is depicted. In the second reading we find a sort of confusion among the believer on hearing about the end time. We have seen how people are confused even today when some people spread panic among people about the end time. When the 2000 began there was such panic that they said the world would end. Many even sold their things and waited for the end to occur. Even today some godmen do such tricks to earn their livelihood by spreading such news. So also during Paul’s time as we heard in the second reading when the people of Thessalonica abandon their livelihood and wait expectantly for the end time. In the Gospel we see clear instruction of Jesus how the world will end Because we see how Jesus has been slowly but surely moving towards Jerusalem. Jerusalem being the religious centre of Israelites. Jesus knows his missionary Journey would end there. When the leaders of the Jewish people would eventually find fault with Jesus and unjustly condemn him. Jesus uses this opportunity to instruct his disciples about not only his own end but also the end of Jerusalem He knows when the legal system which was creating legal life would end. A new beginning would come into being where a new law of love would enable mankind to renewed hope for the future. Today’s all the three readings have been a testimony to this reality. As we end the liturgical cycle let us be ready to face God’s values in our lives. Thus as we participate in the Eucharistic celebration our hope for the future become more and more real. LIFE AFTER DEATH A CHRISTIAN REALITY

32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Theme: Living in Hope 10-11-13 1st Reading Mac 7:1-2,7a,9-14 persecution of the Jews as a memory to the Jews’ symbolic martyrdom. 2nd Reading 2nd Thes 2:16, 3:5 Paul reminds the Thessalonians to do what is good. Gospel Luke 20:27-38 Jesus disproves the Sadducees’ misconception, ‘life after death’. We have been witnesses to scientific progress in preserving life. In creating life. In giving longevity to life. We have seen how hearts have been replaced, eyes have been replaced, cut limbs have been joined back. Destroyed features have been restored to beauty. All this is a sign of medical progress in giving man some hope in this world of ours. In doing this can we see any new dimensions in increasing hope in human need for peace, joy, love, unity, harmony and other values which are most essential for a Christian living? This is brought to real meaning only by one Person Jesus our redeemer who came from the father to reveal the reality of heaven, which is not seen by any one except him. We are nearing the end of one cycle in the liturgical year in the church’s life. As the Cycle C is coming to a close. The readings also remind the Christian believer about the end time. Our life is not just for today. It is meant for the life to come. We live in hope to be united with the creator who has not only given us life but also given us faith not because of our goodness but because of his generosity. We have read and reread the book of Maccabees. Their courage against the pagan king who wanted them to blaspheme and say evil against their only God. Their courage even to face death willingly is praise worthy for they have shown life does not end here and now but it is a continuation of God’s love even after death. In the second reading the love of Paul to Thessalonians is so great he encourages them to be faithful to a God who has been good to them. He even asks them to pray for each other’s welfare. Gospel is a reminder how the Sadducees and the leaders of the Jewish people wanted to trap Jesus Jesus is very aware of his forthcoming imminent death. The whole discourse between the Sadducees and Jesus is a reminder how they try to involve him through his death into their own legal complication. The Levirate law permitted the dead brother’s wife to marry the living one. This was the custom in the Jewish law. Here Jesus is being trapped into this legal tangle. But Jesus is cleaver. He knows the law and he tries to tell these ignorant leaders the death is like the one not according to their belief. After death the dead do not have a physical being like the one they imagine. It is a living being like that of the Angels. They were familiar with that idea even though they might have not seen an angel but the existence of angels was not disputed by them This traps them in their own argument. Sadducees were well versed in law. They could not be defeated in it’s knowledge. That is the reason they look so confident to defeat Jesus in seeking his opinion about the marriage after resurrection. Jesus is able to trap them in their own argument and defeat them in their own question. Today let us realize when people advertise the goodness of small family by saying to use so many banned versions of family planning. By encouraging people to resort to abortion to avoid unwanted pregnancy. To kill old people because they are burden on the young. Where are we heading we as Christians must be honest in living our vocation to be light way and truth. Life has lost it’s sublimity. It has become cheap, terrorists using living being to create terror and using suicidal living bombs to bring their values to reality. So many unwanted babies being murdered. Even some holy people cooperating in this evil venture. Where are we leading our life to? Can we bring some novelty to life we propose people to live? My Life in the world


31st Sunday in Ordinary Time Year C Theme: My Life in the world 3-11-13 1st Reading Wis 11:22-12:1 God’s forbearance an opportunity to repent. 2nd Reading 2nd Thess 1:11-2:2 misunderstandings in Thessalonica are put to rest. Gospel Lk 19:1-10 Jesus invites himself to Zacchaeus home. Often we have seen how we behave. When we are happy we enjoy, when sad we show our sadness. When we are curious we express it curiosity. We see today one of our feelings of curiosity expressed by the little fellow Zacchaeus. He climbed the sycamore tree to be able to relieve his curiosity about Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus in turn shows concern to a man who wanted to see him a childish way of having a glimpse of Jesus by climbing on a tree. We see how the second reading shows that we have to be ready at all time for an eventuality to be ready for our death. The first reading shows us how we have to be patient with God because he is patient with us. We have many defects, failures, sins etc which require God’s forgiveness. Jesus came to bring salvation to the human race. We are people who have experienced the Love of God. That is why we attempt to be true to our vocation as Christians. Going to mass, receiving sacraments, participating in various religious exercises. Our Christian vocation is invested with responsibility to be a sign. The signal we give everyday is the signal of a Christian who lives in hope. We have read and meditated on the readings on the Eucharist every Sunday when we are invited to be God’s people. Every time we participate in the Meal of the Lord we become shares of his glory. But it entails on a some responsibility of forgiveness which we have experienced in the life we have had lived. The first reading today reminds us how God mercifully waits for a very sinful person to return. Though this person might not belong to the people of God but because the creation is God’s action of his love for the nature. Here we have to live this wonder of his creation every day. The second reading is a reminder for each of us to be ready for the end of the world and life. Because our life is not permanent it ends at one or the other instant of the life we have. We have to be ready all the time. The Gospel is an self invitation of the master to a man who is eagerly waiting to have a glimpse of the great messiah he has so much heard of. He is so small he has to climb a sycamore tree to find a glimpse of the master and Jesus surprises him by going to the tree and invites himself to Zacchaeus house. Though God has created the whole universe and made us it’s protector. We have become so greedy for the use of the universe we try to use it to it maximum to the point of destroying it. We have to become aware of it God gives us many chances to be aware of the damage we cause to nature by its over use. The light, air, water, natural resources. How do we appreciate the world God has placed at our disposal? Our greed has multiplied to such extent we do not even know what we are doing. Some ten years a go our needs were not that complicated as today. Why are our needs are growing with leaps and bounds???? Today when the book of wisdom is warning us when God showed patience with the Egyptians though they were so bad he saved them from extinction just to give them an opportunity to repent. God never wants the created being be lost in any case. His love for us is boundless. As Zaccaeus became a new person when encountered with love he not only accepted his sinfulness but was willing to undo the wrong he cause with much compunction and repentance. What is our condition? Do we realize the need for repentance? Sorrow in our hearts is hidden so that it can emerge to gain credibility and our life by expressing it openly so it becomes a shining signal to our neighbor. Who ever it may be Christian as well as non Christian who comes in my contact may see me as a shining star in the dark night. This world is a place we come only once. We get only one chance. We can either use it profitably or loose our opportunity. This Sunday like Zacchaeus we can take some stand which might attract Jesus to us. It is always he who makes the first move to reach out to us if only we want him to reach to us. This will last permanently like the books we read from the Old Testament which show God’s abiding presence in the lives of his chosen people. humility in Prayer

30th Sunday in Ordinary time Year C Theme: humility in Prayer 27-10-13 1st Reading Ecclesiasticus 35:12-14, 16-19 Lord listens to the humble. 2nd Reading Timothy 4:6-8, 16-18 Paul sees his death as a sacrifice to God and the church. Gospel Luke 18:9-14 prayer of the publican. Our life is a constant struggle. When we begin our life we do not know what we will achieve. Our parents have a dream for us. When that dream is fulfilled the parents are proud of their children. We have a dream for our own future. We have many plans. We try to achieve these through various means in life. First and foremost we live in society which has it’s own rules and statutes. We try to adjust and make compromise to these values in life. We have religious community which backs our attempt to achieve our goal. We as Christians have some very demanding values. We call them virtues. Today we will try to meditate on the value of Humility. We say we have to be humble. We are instructed to practice humility. When it comes to putting it in to practice there are always hurdles which we have to surpass by prayer. Today the first reading tells us the value of humble supplication which surely reaches to the ear of the Almighty. Often when we pray our humility is not coming forth in reality. We have to really attempt to be humble of heart. This is come to light in the Gospel of today. We see two people in the temple where usual prayer takes place. Jesus locates in these men the idea of humility and pride. The Pharisee was not wrong enumerating his achievements. He was wrong while comparing himself that man behind. Do we not compare ourselves, when we come to church and hear the sermon and when it goes to our heart we say this value is not for me. For that person behind me. Yes Paul was an apostle chosen by direct intervention by Jesus for a special mission. He was accompanied by many disciples. They eventually had to leave his company. In today’s second reading we hear a cry of a person who has human feelings of abandonment by friends. But in his pain he forgets the mission God had entrusted to him. First time Paul’s human weakness is visible. We are given to understand this to be able to live our vocation with devotion to any duty God might have entrusted to us. We are in the world. To live our mission in whatever we do. As officials, as teachers, as administrators, as ordinary workers, as farmers, as officials in government office. We might be doing our ordinary duties. But when we do it with extraordinary devotion our mission becomes the mission of God’s presence. Shall we take this as our contribution to this world of ours. FAITH GIVES US LIFE 27TH SUNDAY YEAR 2013 YEAR C


27th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year C Theme: Faith gives us life 6-10-2013 1st Reading Habakkuk 1:2-3, 2:2-4 even if lawlessness prevail, the upright will live through faithfulness. 2nd Reading 2nd Timothy 1:6-8,13-14 Gifts that Timothy received, to live comfortably in faith Gospel Luke 17:5-10 Power of faith, and Humble service The veracity of our parents is never taken to question. We trust we are the children of our parents. Because they have loved us that is the reason we are in this world. This fact is the natural basis for our faith in God the father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit who have thought it fit to choose us to be Christians. The gift of faith in the divinely revealed religious faith is a mystery we try to understand and deepen everyday in the life we lead as Christians. In the first reading taken from one of the 12 minor prophets Habakkuk, gives us the inner dynamics of the gift of faith. It tells us Faith is the key to life. Gift is always given out of generosity and gratuitous nature of the giver is expressed in giving. The one who receives the gift has no right to choose the gift, or to make the gift as an option of his/her prerogative. Though often after a gift is given it becomes the property of the possessor, He/she may use it as he/she wants. There is where we either become aware of this tremendous gift and deepen it or loose it. In the case of Faith which is a gratuitous gift from God given to each of us. Faith becomes our possession but this possession has a mission to be shared. God wants each of us born here on this earth to be saved. God the father sent His only Son among us and saved us. Giving us the keys to the kingdom. According to Habakkuk, whatever the evils of this world the person of faith will win eventually. In the second reading the quality of faith is explained. Christ has over come death. He has shown the people who accept his redemption as a gift the way to be saved. This faith is so free and gratuitous we don’t even realize the significance of this gift as long as we do not become aware of it’s possession. That is why Paul admonishes Timothy to be firm in the teaching, “remain in faith and love that are in Jesus Christ.” This gives us our character never to be afraid of witnessing to Christ’s teachings. The Gospel we read today is a teaching by Jesus to us an exercise in understanding the power of faith. Jesus gives us a very unusual example of a mustard seed, a mountain being uprooted thrown into the sea, a sycamore tree uprooting and thrown into the sea. Rather impossible things look very difficult to achieve but Jesus has shown he could do this difficult easy. Look at the feeding of the people in the wilderness. Look at satisfying the wedding guests in the wedding feast with exceptional tasting wine. Look at the raising of Jairus daughter to life. Look at calming the sea when the disciples were afraid of drowning. Look at the man lying 36 years in the Decapolis when no one was there to put him in the pool of healing, being healed in a second. Look at the blind given sight, The lame given power to walk. Deaf the power to hear. The maimed to be whole again. The leper being cured of leprosy. Disciples catching a large catch of fish though they were fishermen still he was better than them when it came to using faith. So when Jesus admonishes us to be aware of the gift of faith he has given us, he cautions each one of us who have been chosen in a very special way as his witnesses to be his disciples. Do we have the courage to be the testimony of faith? The Greek word for faith carries the idea of firmness, certainty, and reliability. Faith is not just belief on certain truths. It is trust in a person. This is because that person is trustworthy. We trust in God because he is true and loves us dearly. Let us consider this. We have experienced Jesus love and compassion. Gospel Luke 16:19-31 Parable of Dives and Lazarus. Today the 26th Sunday gives us an opportunity to meditate on the progress we have made as human beings. We are Christians. Who live in this world. We are various types of works in the society. We are affected by developments. Natural calamities. The politics of the country makes us aware of the type of society that is formed by certain political decisions. Some times we become prey to the advertisements which are against our faith, we are in a dilemma because these are couched in honey but are sinful. We participate in the progress of the country, some times at the detriment of weaker section of the people, who are deprived of their rights by powerful by manipulation. We also see the many evils that are part and parcel of the countries progress. E.g globalization, secularization etc., Where some live in great comfort, where as some live in abject poverty. There are social activist who struggle for justice peace and righteousness. But just equality is far in coming. We see so much poverty in India. People living in sub-human situations on foot paths, on plat forms, side walks, in the open spaces where large buildings are built, where the children of the poor wallow in the mud and dirt. No one bothers. There may be some NGO or some religious congregations doing little to eliminate the poverty of these people. The poverty of poor people is an area where we Christian cannot close our eyes and move on. We are generous when there are natural tragedies. We do give generously when collections are made. We even volunteer when some one is in need. This Sunday’s readings challenge each one of us. To be aware of our mission as Christians, to care for the poor around us. In the first reading, Amos is warning the rich against their false security, he asks to open their eyes to the reality of time. Paul in the second reading forewarns Timothy of his vocation to strive to live to the call God has invited him in earnest. This may be a reminder to each of us to be honest with our Christian vocation and live it faithfully. In the Gospel we heard the oft repeated story of the poor Lazarus and the rich man. This gives us an inkling of the things that await a person does not bother about the poverty around him. We are people who live in a time where there is tremendous amount of progress in everything. We have better facilities when we compare our own lives and needs some ten years back. How do we use this progress? Do I live as committed Christian missionary? Or allowing the priests and sisters and lay missionaries to slog, only giving our bit when asked? Do we consciously come forward to do our missionary task of taking care of our neighbor? Often we Christians live compromising so many areas of our lives. Closing our eyes to the challenges of the time. How do we face the world of today? Do we realize when God has chosen us as Christians we have a responsibility to be a testimony of truth justice and love? In becoming aware of our vocation let us try to strive to live it faithfully. Divine Mercy Sunday 1st Sunday after Easter Year I 01-05-11 I Reading Acts 2:42-47 Spirit helps the Christians aim to live as Caring, Sharing and Loving community. II Reading I Peter 1:3-9 The Resurrection makes us a new generation. Gospel John 20:19-31 Christ’s victory over death gives us a hope in our life. One word of trust in the Lord allows us to be free of all our sins. We known a perfect contrition forgives the gravest sin. We live in this world where every thing is broken. We have so many limitations for example:- 1. Broken life. 2. Illness. 3. Limitations. 4. Cheating. 5. Pride. 6. Using wealth to propagate evil in the world. 7. Thirst for power. 9. Terrorism. 10. Wars. 11. Using the modern methods to limit life. 12. Using development out of selfish motives. When Jesus enters into our lives and transformed the whole of world’s outlook. He showed how to forgive. How to love. How to live for others. How to serve How to share. Today when the whole world celebrates the Divine Mercy Sunday. Spark of Jesus love and mercy becomes visible in our lives. How by our personal experience of finding Jesus has forgiven us. Have we ever encountered the forgiveness of the Lord? Like he forgave the sinful woman caught in adultery. Zachaeus forgiven and enfolded in the Christ’s company. Jesus Eating with the sinners and lost people. Pharisees and Jewish leader never liked Jesus sense of forgiveness. Jesus called he came to call one sinner leaving the 99 for one who is lost. He has given so many examples of this in his public ministry. Today when we see he encounters his own Disciples. He announces peace to them. Peace is sign of unity harmony. Then he gives them the power of the spirit to forgive sins Thomas is asked to come and place his hand in his side his fingers in the holes of the nails in his hand. His proclamation of his faith “My Lord and My God” Jesus can forgive and not even count the reason for forgiveness. He simply came to call us into his kingdom. He even knew his disciples would desert him still he loved them. He knew Peter would disown him, still he made him the head of the team. He knew Judas would betray him , still he never scolded him encouraged him to complete the work. When the human being accepts Jesus, as personal savior the redeeming Lord comes alive in their lives. Yes how often do I remember Jesus as my personal savior? Jesus constantly called the world to repent. Are we aware of the magnitude of our sins???? He would grant forgiveness. Just for asking. In our religion how easy it is to get forgiveness? Just go and accept your fault and confess. God instantly forgives??? What a reward for us. Justice in God’s sight is not reward and punishment. Just acceptance and restoration to the glory for which each one of us created. We lost our dignity due to our own pride and selfishness. Once we surrender and accept our nothingness the glory will shine. When Jesus gives the power of forgiveness to this disciples he gives a great key to them. Yes how much generous he is. He lived and died to save us. Now he continues to give this forgiving grace to us through this sacrament of penance. That is divine mercy of which saint Faustina proclaimed. Her whole life was a life of a missionary of Mercy. She called herself the secretary God’s mercy. She lived and proclaimed that her whole life was a shining example of grace being transmitted. When all over the world when people pray the chaplet of grace surely they accept the situation of sin. Once we accept this grace flows into our hearts. Come let us become aware of God’s grace and live to proclaim the grace we have received through the sacrament of penance of gift of reconciliation. 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year C 10-02-13 Theme: qualifying the unqualified!!

<5th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year C 10-02-13 Theme: qualifying the unqualified!! 1st Reading Is. 6:2a, 3-8 Mission. Of an unqualified 2nd Reading 1st Cor. 15:1-11 Core of our belief is Resurrection, which is the source of Paul’s missionary mandate. Gospel Luke 5:1-11 call of the disciples. As Christians called to follow God’s servant Jesus Who came into this world of ours, where there are so many difficulties to be overcome!!!!. If we turn our eyes to our own existence we find we live in a community of people, whom we call parents, relatives, friends etc. This existence extends to the neighborhood. In our own cases we find our faith is surrounded by various types of beliefs, our faith is being tested at every moment. We are challenged to prove our faith saying it belongs to a western culture. First and foremost we have to eke out our living working in such surroundings. We as believers have been selected to live impossible way of life. We cannot live like people around us. We are like salt in the vast cauldron in big container of food. Some times we launch out to into the deep for social uplift, for economic wellbeing for our own families and societies where w belong. We even have launched out into foreign countries where we have no opportunity of publicly to live our faith because we are living in an atmosphere of state religion where we cannot profess our faith publicly. Some of us have left behind our dear and near ones so we lack moral solidarity of the believing community. This existential reality poses many difficulties. Man away from his wife! Woman away from her husband. These are realities we have to face. This may some time even break the family we have been so preciously upholding. Because we are created to be as family to live our lives. In today’s reading this reality is well explained. In the first reading we find that the prophet who was chosen was not competent, but competence was bestowed on him not by simple investiture but by burning his lips. Very expressive crude way of empowering a disciple for a risky job of prophesies to the chosen people as a special mission of bringing them back to the covenant relationship. God knows how to empower his chosen ones. In the second reading we find the preacher Paul who claims his authorship to the preaching material to a tradition which has been handed over to him. A mystery of Jesus reality where God becomes man to save man. We are also part of this mystery not because we are able to comprehend this mystery. We have encountered so many problems in the life we have faced thus far. We might be facing more of these problems later, how shall we get ourselves qualified to this risky business? By participating in celebrations of our Christian belief like the Eucharist!!! This participation should not become a rudimentary act but a devotion which enhances our belief in the Divine. The Gospel where Jesus chooses his disciples. It is a wonderful passage where Jesus Christ is choosing his ministers not from anywhere outside. They were tired fishermen who knew how to fish. A fisherman of the men was demanding from them an action which demanded total trust. Jesus asks them to launch out into the deep to fish, though they are hesitant they trustingly cast their nets and what is the result!!!! We know the miracle of the catch of fish!!!! This event makes Peter the leader of the lot to realize his unworthiness and he cries out to the lord to leave him because he is very sinner!!!! Here is where the perfect man qualifies the imperfect. We have to keep our gaze on Christ. We have to live our vocation as Christians fixing our gaze on Christ. Today when we attend our Eucharistic sacramental reality let it become for us a rallying point. We can live in harmony of love our vocation as Christians.
