20th
Sunday in ordinary time year B 19-08-12
Theme: Eucharist in my life.
1st
Reading Proverb
9:1-6 A Banquet prepared by God.
2nd
Reading Ephesians 5:15-20 By being open to God.
Gospel
John 6:51-58 Jesus is the living bread.
Olden
time going to school we used to carry Tiffin .
I
remember half way I used to open and see what mom has given me for that day.
People
going to work also carry Tiffin
and share while eating in the lunch interval.
This
is a nice way of becoming used to life.
Life
is a journey and we require sustenance life you meals.
We
have a custom when we are on a journey we usually eat in the train.
It
is quite common to share some of the food with the fellow travelers though we
might not know them. Jesus knew we
require food for our life so he has taken care of us by sharing his own life
with us.
Often
I feel Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is sharing his life with us.
He
waits for us and wants to share all he has with us.
We
see people visiting the church and paying tribute and seeking Jesus assistance
when they pass the church for work.
I
remember a small story told to me during the catechism class.
There
is an incident about a person, who used
to visit or bow his head in front of the church.
The
man used to say, “Jesus I have come to visit
you”. And go to work.
This
used to go on for almost whole of his working days.
One
day he became very ill and was about to die and his wife went to the parish
priest seeking him to bring viaticum.
The
priest came to the man with the blessed species.
As
soon as he entered the house he could hear Jesus telling him “John Jesus has
come to see you”.
We
know such things will happen only when we have faith.
We
often would like to know what sort of life we would be having when this earthly
sojourn is over.
This
can be answered only in faith.
Jesus
came to us to reveal this to us and he in fact has enabled us to experience it
by giving us his own body and blood in the Eucharist.
We
celebrate Eucharist everyday, more over as Christians who come to church every
Sunday clad in finery to be part of that glorious life.
Every
time we participate in his life death and resurrection in the Eucharist we
proclaim his love for each one of us.
When
we declare the mystery of faith, saying dying you destroyed our death, raising
you restored our life, Lord Jesus come in glory.
What
a beautiful acclamation of belief?
Do
we realize the value and splendor of such an acclamation!!!!!!
Our
life is a mystery.
The
conception in the womb of a mother happens when two people unite in love to
create a person.
When
we unite ourselves with Jesus at the Eucharist, he gives himself fully for us
to live our everyday life meaningfully.
Often
we become so insensitive to this union of Jesus.
He
invites us to be part of him.
He
tells us unless I eat the flesh and drink the blood I have no life in him.
What
an invitation, a challenge, and a reality between two people.
I
our country the respect for Eucharist is still quite normal.
But
we cannot be self complacent.
This
reality is slowly loosing its grandeur.
Foreign
influence is catching up and many people do not feel the need to attend
Eucharist..
The
grace that we receive has to be used meaningfully.
When
we lovingly and faithfully participate in the Eucharist the transformation
takes place.
In
our behavior there will be a marked change.
our
interaction with the people we meet will show we have some extraordinary grace
in us.
Our
behavior will be different from the ordinary.
Today
when we have heard all three readings they invite us to be aware of God’s
presence in Jesus in our lives.
Let
us be grateful to Jesus for this wonderful gift of the Eucharist to us.
It
is not easy, in this modern age when there is competition for every thing.
We
have to be really like Jesus thinking about the other first than ourselves.
The
selfishness will have to be sacrificed on alter of service.
Wishing
all my readers and co-travelers in faith a very happy Sunday
Yours
ever in the divine word,
Fr.
