Gospel
Luke 1:39-56 the visitation.
1st
of November 1950 goes into the annuls of the church as an important day when
Pope Pius xii declared the Assumption as a Dogma to the Catholic church.
II
Vatican Council again reiterated the truth that the Immaculate Virgin preserved
from all stain of original sin was taken up to heaven body and soul.
She
is queen over all things by the Lord.
The
Holy spirit has lead the church to believe that she shares in the glorification
of her son.
If
she shared the pain and misery she has a right to share the glory
naturally??????
She
is the lowly servant who was exalted high above every being born.
Today
the whole world prays to Mary assumed into Heaven Body and Soul. This is a
reward given to our Mother Mary because she was sinless only because of sin
does our body get corrupted.
Mary
who was chosen from her birth to be the mother of the Redeemer could not be
subjected to sin.
One
day when I was interviewed by a non Christian young lady for the Radio Veritas
she asked me why Mother Mary was not exempt from the sorrow of her son’s death
and suffering.
I
told her because God loves each one of us equally he does not make any
difference between the specially chosen ones and the ordinary ones.
Each
of us who get our birth very special in the Eyes of God.
He
takes care of each one of us equally.
Though
he might give special grace to one according to the mission he entrust to the
one he chooses to entrust this with.
The
child birth of Jesus was equally painful like any child birth if God allowed
her to feel the pain then how could he
prevent her from the pain of seeing her son suffering and dying of on
the Cross?
Pain
is a common factor both at the birth and at death.
When
the world celebrates the extraordinary event of Mother Mary’s assumption into
heaven, we in India have the
honor of celebrating another event of our Independence .
To
be free is a great feeling.
When
a child feels that he/she has achieved the age of freedom like right to vote,
right to choose the life partner without any hindrance of society and family,
the new fundamental right to education.
Child
naturally feels happy and tries to exercise this right.
How
we exercise this is a question today we have to answer as Indian Christians.
We
are adults.
There
are so many different opinions proposed to us, to choose we have to make a
considered choice.
Some
times we may be competent enough and if we are humble enough we might ask
advice of other people who are more competent than us.
When
things are explained to us and we feel convinced in our conscience we feel
good.
Mother
who has been a model of submission and humility by her example to each one of
us comes into our lives by apparitions, by the teachings of the church.
How
we come across her is up to us.
Mother
in our lives has a special significance, the Hindu culture worships the mother
goddess, they have all sorts of deities, Sarswati, Durga, Kali, Laxmi,
Santoshimata, Vasudha, Parvathi, Shakti, etc.
Some
times the catholics can mistake these in their love for Mary is surely our
mother but she is not a god or goddess she is only a mother of saviour who has
been saved from all stain of sin.
Today
we are given this opportunity to meditate on her life.
From
the book of Revelation we get a picture of a woman who has overcome the evil
forces of nature.
From
the New Testament writing of Paul we find how her son over came death and
became victories in the heavenly domain.
In
the Gospel we find the compassionate visit of a cousin to her sister for the
need in helping her to bear her child.
The
meeting is a scene in joyful companionship two women one young and the other
elderly meeting and expressing joy.
The
chosen vessel of honor showing her humility by reciting the greatest prayer
ever expressed the ‘MAGNIFICAT ‘
Let
us once again apply our minds to the mission God has entrusted to each one of
us.
There
are innumerable stories narrated about the love of a child to the mother.
The
mother used to be very strict to the child.
One
day the child wanted to show its love to the mother on her birth day.
The
child went to the garden and fearfully brought a beautiful flower hid it behind
the back.
Mother
was angry the child was supposed to learn the lessons.
She
scolded the child and the flower in the hand of the child fell to the ground.
The
child went away leaving the fallen flower there on the ground.
When
mother finished the work she found a faded flower on the ground.
Then
she realized why the child had come to
her.
She
felt sorry and went to the child embraced it and kissed and asked pardon.
Today
our mother is waiting for us to come to her she wishes us to relate to her our
many owes
Wishing
you all a very happy feast of the Assumption.
And
the Celebration of the 63rd Independence
of our great Nation India
In
the Divine Word,
