PROVIDENT GOD SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B 29-07-12


17th Sunday of Ordinary Time Year B 29-07-12
Theme: Providing God
1st Reading: 2nd Kings 4:42-44 multiplication of loaves.
2nd Reading: Ephesians 4:1-6  invitation to Unity
Gospel John 6:1-15 concern for the hungry.
The struggle for life is seen all round us.
People attempt to solve problems by intellectual, social, economical, political, and cultural standards.
We forget God is at the helm of all activities in this world.
The universe has to depend on the providence of God.
We come to the church for Mass every Sunday.
Some of us bring along with us, our concerns.
The concerns can be physical, or spiritual., social, cultural, family, or any of these.
Often these concerns hinder our spiritual progress.
Let us see how God is giving us opportunities to solve these concerns?
If we take stock of our lives we see that often…..
We float along the stream and forget why we are floating.
Unless and until we become familiar with the purpose of our goal all our efforts will become futile.
We pray for food, shelter, good health of mind and body etc.
When these issues are addressed we forget God.
Hardly do we pray for spiritual consolation.
Go back to early days, when parents taught us to pray,.
What was the prayers they taught us?
To provide us with necessities. Like daily bread, clothing, shelter etc.
What we learned from our parents is being practiced even today.
Unconsciously we still depend on those childhood prayers.
It is time like adult Christians we have to learn to pray from depth of our being.
Today’s three readings are exercise in God’s providential care.
He will never permit us to starve.
The resource he has created is enough and more.
But our greed increases day by day.
The nations are advocating family planning to provide for all the living.
We have destroyed the ecology, forests, and other natural resources.
That is why the whole of sense of the divine is lost.
We forget we are finite; we try to play as if we are infinite.
Jesus clearly wants his disciples to be thinking of the providence.
That is why he asks them, ‘how many loaves of bread do they have?’
They miss the point and say ‘what they can do in a desert place?’
Now Jesus proves who is the master of the desert, where it is difficult to find anything, Jesus uses the available things to provide for all sufficient and more.
But Jesus is God man and his miracle is clearly a sign for his future provident care brought into existential domain.
Our participation in the Eucharistic celebration is clearly indicative of this same belief in the providential trust.
We see in these three readings how God has been taking care of all our needs.
In the second reading how our  unity in becoming one with Jesus in his Body and Spirit is demonstrated.
This gives us a sense of harmony in Jesus life and mission.
So many things happen in our lives.
Like the Israelites we have to see the hand of God in every thing happening in our lives.
We are often anxious for things that are not available in our lives.
We try to compare our needs with the needs of our neighbors.
How many of us are willing to be last and least.
We would never be satisfied with the little we have.
We like to own more and more.
This will cause us to be unsatisfied and always greedy.
How to be happy and content and grateful to God who has given us life, is shown in today’s reading.
We have heard people saying praise the Lord, thank the Lord.
This is a good beginning of trusting in the provident God.
This makes our lives more wanting than satisfied.

ಆಮ್ಚೆ ಸಮಸ್ಸೆ, ಕುಡಿಚೆ, ಅತ್ಮ್ಯಾಚೆ, ಸಾಂಸ್ಕ್ರತಿಕ್, ಕುಟ್ಮಾಚೆ, ಯಾ ಕಸಲೆಯ್ ಜಾತಿತ್.

ಅಶೆಂ ಆಮಿಂ ಪರ್ಯಾವರಣ್ ಪಾಡ್ ಕರ್ನ್ ಪ್ರಕ್ರತಿ ವಿದ್ರುಪ್ ಕೆಲ್ಯಾ.

15th Sunday in Ordinary Time year B 15-07-12 Theme: Empowering for a specific Mission 1st Reading Amos 7:12-15 Yahweh chooses Amos with a specific purpose. 2nd Reading Ephesians 1:3-14 we have been chosen from eternity for a purpose that is to gain eternal kingdom. Gospel Mark 6:7-13 Mission of the twelve. God chooses the weak to empower them to be strong for his mission. As Mother Theresa so beautifully said God qualifies the unqualified. He sees the goodness not the sins. We read so many stories everyday in the newspapers. We usually are keen to share such news with the friends and seek opinions and express our views on it. The modern media oftentimes does not report good things easily. It sensationalizes the some abnormal issues in such a way they become instant salable items. That is how the media remains rich in the way of commerce and poor in moral values. We have recently been witnessing the Delhi high court verdict on the homosexuality between two consenting adults. Though the church has always held that we empathize with these people but the church cannot sanction these unnatural behaviors as norms of normal behavior. Though the society may talk and try to bring forward many arguments, even court verdicts or from the standpoint of psychology the unnatural tendency cannot become a natural behavior. But the natural reality cannot be substituted by aberration in the character of a human being. Now is the time to be testifying to the truth we have experienced. We can empathically counsel such aberration in and around our lives. We have to prophetically stand for the values of the kingdom which are so beautifully brought in today three readings. Because like Amos he may some times uproot us even without our realizing this fact are we ready? Let us try to examine them meditatively. The three readings of today are indicative of a personal mission for each person. We are brought face to face with prophet Amos who is neither a professional prophet nor is he a disciple of a qualified prophet. Amaziah, who is a priest of Bethel, taunts Amos to prove his missionary qualification as a prophet. Usually professional prophets used to use their knowledge some how to impress upon the kings to earn their livelihood. But Amos does not do such acts. In the first part of the challenge he is called a seer which is a very low grading of a prophet’s identity by all standards. Amos proclaims himself to be only a person who belongs to the profession of herd’s man ship. He also identifies himself as a person who tends the sycamore-fig trees. It is like we have people who tap the rubber trees. Here they enhance the sycamore fruit to ripen faster by pinching it. We live in tribal area and the tribal people have a method of making the fruit ripen faster by pricking it by nails to make it ripe faster. So Amos must have been doing the same type of job like the tribal people. But then God has some other plan for this rustic man of the wild. In the second reading we find how we have been created to be happily residents of a heavenly city. Now Paul is trying to enumerate such characteristics of a person who is a citizen of heaven. He tries to prove his argument by making us members to Christ’s redemptive activity. Paul tells the Ephesians how the sinful condition has caused Jesus to come into the world to redeem us through his suffering and passion death and resurrection to give us an opening to the heavenly kingdom. The Gospel tells us to be depending on God’s providence for our daily needs. When we have accepted the gift of faith like the disciples we have to be relying on the instructions of Jesus Christ. He tells us like he does to the disciples we have to be men/women who trust in the divine providence. He will take care of all our needs if we honestly try to extend the values of the kingdom. Healing is a very essential determining character of a responsible disciple, who goes around announcing the kingdom values, and in the process that which hinders this value mainly sickness which is the result of sin has to be healed with the power God gives each one of us to heal. We see many of us have this inherent charisma which allows us to be dealing with sickness and illness. Though modern society has many of healing professions, like doctors and other allied professions like nursing and hospital related facilities. Though these institutions are at our service, we still have to be depending on the power of prayer and trust in the divine intervention to be healed. So the quality of the sacrament of healing or the sacrament of anointing of the sick becomes relevant for a missionary. We have ample opportunities to be using this talent of healing where we are employed we can be elements of salt, light and leaven by being able to give hope to people who are often seeking fast relief. We have to tell people as Christians we are fully for professional institutions of healing; we still believe God can heal us through his personal intervention through these institutions. This will enable us to be witnesses for the mission God has entrusted us. Let us prophetically live our vocation as believing people who exercise the God given talents of sensitivity to be at the service of people who are close to us. In our offices, institutions, people who meet us causally who relate to us because they find us listening to them. This is what happens when be become sensitive to the call of God which may come at any moment of our lives, like Amos. Some times our life in this world become so engrossed in the realities of this world we become deaf to the realities of heaven. Don’t you think this should be our prime concern? Let this Sunday invitation to meditate on our mission may make us Catholics who are alive to the spirit of the lord with invites us to follow him closely in our daily life. सामान्य काल का चॊदवां रविवार B 08-07-12 आज का विषय:ईश्वर के वचन की अवहेलना/. प्रथम पाठ एजेकियेल प्रवादी का ग्रंथ::28b-2:2-5 ईश्वर का प्रेम सीमारहित हॆ/. दूसरा पाठ कुरिंथियों के नाम दूसरा पत्र: 12:7-10 पौलुस अपने शरीर की पीडा से ईश्वर के असीमित प्रेम का अनुभव करर्ता हॆ/ सुसमाचार मार्कुस का सुसमाचार:6:1b-6 शिश्यों का प्रेशण/. अपना दॆश विविध धार्मिक परंपरावों का भंडार हॆ/ विविध धर्मावलंबी हजारों सालों से एक दूसरे के साथ पडोसियों के रुप में जीवन बिताते आये हॆं/ पर अब यह समन्वय टूटने के कगार पर हॆ/ यद्यपी हमारे दॆश के बहुसंख्यक लोग यह जानते कि सबको मिल जुल कर जीना हॆ, पर आतंकी इस समन्वयता को खंडित करना चाहते/ अनेक बार मनमुटाव की भावना के बीज बोने का प्रयत्न होते रहता हॆ/ यद्यपी वर्षों से हम, हिंदू, मुसल्मान, बुध्दावलंबी, जॆनी, सीख, जेरोतोस्त्री, बहाई, क्रिस्ती आदी मिल जुल कर जीवन बिताते थे/ धर्मांधी इस समन्वय को बिगाडना चाहते/. यद्यपी हमारा देश धर्म पर आधारित न होकर वसुंधरा कुटुंबकम के सिध्दांत को मानने वाला देश हॆ/ संविधान हर भारतीय नागरिक को अपना धर्म मानने, उसका प्रचार कर्ने, आधि का अधिकार देता हॆ/ पर अनेक बार इस अधिकार को जब लागू करने की बात होती हॆ तो लोगों में एक छुपी भ्राति विद्यमान दीख पडती हॆ/ एक धर्मावलंबी दूसरे पर आक्रमण तक कर बॆठ्ते/ बहुसंख्यक, अल्पसंख्यकों का अधिकार का हनन कर्ना अपना अधिकार समझते/ अल्पसंख्यक लॊग अपने आप को असहाय महसूस कर्ते/ अनेक जगहों पर अल्पसंख्यकों की जमीन जायदाद लूट ली जाती हॆ उनके घरों को जलाया जाता हॆ/ धर्म के नाम पर लोग मर मिटने के लिए सिध्द हो जाते हॆं/ यह दस बीस साल पहले लोगों मे प्रचलित भावना न थी/ यहां तक कहा जाता हे कि एक धर्म के लॊग इस देश के नागरिक तक नहीं हॆ/ ऎसा कर धर्म को मुखोटा बना कर कई धार्मिक कट्टर पंथी समाज की शांती को ध्वस्थ कर ना चाहते/ इसी से आतंकवाद का जन्म होता हॆ ऒर लोग एक दूसरे को मारने, ऒर नाश कर्ने तक तुले रह्ते/. आज हमें प्रभु मसीह निमंत्रण दॆ रहें हॆ, कि हम कॆसे हमारा जीवन बिताएं/ उसने अपने सिध्दांत को लोगों तक लाने के लिए क्रूस का मरण तक अपनाया/\ निर्दोश होते हुए भी उसने दोशों का बोझ अपने कंधो पर लेकर पापियों को प्यार किया पाप से वॆर ;किया/ उसका उध्देश्य था कि हम अपने दुश्मनों से प्यार करें/ दुश्मनों को क्षमां कर उनको अपने समान प्यार करें./ हम सब को धार्मिक परंपरायें अपने परिवार से मिलतीं हॆ? जब हमारा जन्म हमारे परिवार में हुआ तो हम अपने धर्म से परिचित होने लगे/ हमारे माता पिताने हमें धार्मिक विषयों को समझाने का प्रयास किया/ गांवों में वे जहां रहा करते थे, बहां लोग आपसी भाई चारे का सबूत दिया कर्ते थे/ पर अब वॆशवी करण से लोग आसानी से एक जगह से दूसरी जगह जाते/ स्थिरता कम होगई हॆ/ इससे लोगों के धर्म पर भी असर हुआ हॆ/ इसी बात का फायदा आतंकी लॊग उठाकर आपस में फूट की भावना बोते हॆं/ आज हम सब इस पावन पूजा से अपने जीवन के लक्ष्य को प्राप्त करने की टान लें/ धर्म को विभाजन का कारण न बनाकर एकता को लाने का प्रयत्न करें/ आपसी मनमुटाव को हटा कर प्रेम के बीज बोने का प्रयत्न करें/ आप हम सब इस पूजा को अपने जीवन के लक्ष्य को प्राप्त करने का साधन बनायें/ आज ईसा मसीह हम सब को इस संसार की सभी जगहों पर भेज कर उनके प्यार को फॆलाने का आदेश देते हॆं/ इसे पूर्ण करने के लिए हमें अनेक त्याग को स्वीकार्ना होगा/ इस जीवन को हम अपने जीवको सार्थक बना कर ईश्वर के राज्य को एक दूसरे के जीवन में लाने का प्रयत्न करें/ आपका हितॆशी गुरू जुजे वास एस.वि.डी.

Misunderstanding God's Word : 14th Sunday In Ordinary Time Year B 08-07-12

14th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year B 08-07-12 Theme: Misunderstanding God’s Word 1st Reading Ezekiel:28b-2:2-5 God’s enduring love. 2nd Reading Cor. 12:7-10 Paul view is ‘in weakness we experience God’s enduring love’. Gospel Mark 6:1b-6 rejection of Jesus. We live in a country where religious affinity is important. People of our country have been following different religious beliefs for centuries. Majority of our citizens follow Hindu religion. All major religious beliefs are found in our country like Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism . Jainism, Sikhism, Zerostrianism, Zionist, Bhahais, Christianity, Jewish religion, etc. In spite of this multi-religious background, there is still religious intolarnce. Though our country is secular. There are many religious persecutions. The attacks on these religious groups becomes news within second thanks to the media. Majority communities feel justified in persecuting the minority community. So we have seen many indulging in religious persecutions. Even forcing people to change religion. Many religious symbols are being destroyed and people killed, places of worship demolished. The houses and hearths of the people are confiscated and appropriated without any qualms of conscience some governments even abet such activity. How can we Christians be able to live in such situation? We have Christ’s own example of being misunderstood by his own relatives. Let us reflect on our own religious and family existence. Then to know who we are, be able to live as dignified Christians. We know we belong to a certain family who possess certain religious belief. Our parents might be of exceptional importance in the village. Most of the Catholics and Christians from the southern Indian and Mumbai area have a place in the society. Till recently we were not facing any question about our identity. Now people challenge us saying be are not citizens of this country. Some political parties propagate, that only one type of people are citizens of this country. Sometimes there can be discrimination and rejection due to caste, creed, religion etc. A human being has to endure certain values which the society has instituted through long traditions and customs. With globalization these traditions and customs are crumbling day by day. With fanatic groups regrouping themselves with militant affiliation there is going to be surely confrontation. We have to be aware of this trend. But when we go back to the time of Jesus and the ideas of those people at his time, it was totally different. Jesus came with a strange teaching. Every one knew every one in the village. The village was like a small joint family. So when Jesus began his mission all his actions were critically viewed with the measure of the village mentality. Jesus belonged to an insignificant carpenter family, his relatives were known to all. So people questioned his wisdom. How could this man, who is no body, preach such principles which are against the tenets of their Jewish way. Their belief told them that, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. When Jesus was rejected by his own people surely it must have pained him. Being rejected by the people who know us is a very painful experience. Let us put ourselves in his shoes. In the first reading we see prophetic mission of Ezekiel as a person who would be sent to preach to the people of Israel. We see that how the people of Israel had been headstrong and went on sinning, not listening to God’s invitation. God had been sending prophets to remind them the reason for which they were chosen. Here prophet Ezekiel uses the political term rebel to describe them in this adjective ’rebel’. When a kingdom rebelled against the other it always had to suffer the wrath of the powerful king and face war. But God is not a revengeful God, he is generous, so chooses prophets to challenge them and bring them back to the fold. In the second reading Paul began his mission among the Corinthians. He found he was beset by some strange type of sickness which he could not explain. This hindered his missionary activity. Paul uses this as a medium to experience God’s power in using weakness, sickness, constraints, persecutions etc. These difficulties are a stepping stone to achieving his goal of preaching the Word of God to the people. In the Gospel we see Jesus coming during his public ministry to preach to his own relatives in Nazareth the place where we grew up as a boy. All must have known him as a growing child. They had found him in the temple lost as any knotty child and being found by the grieving parents. They found him doing odd jobs along with his father who was a village carpenter. When played with his cousins and friends and neighbors surely every one saw how normal and ordinary child he was. Now when he came there performing miracles and proclaiming a new sort of teaching different from the Pharisees and Sadducees they could not believe their ears to see how could an ordinary child be a teacher???? So when Jesus began to teach there they would think something was not ok with this man. They did not want to get into trouble due to this strange person who belonged to their village; they would prefer to drive him out of the village than tolerate him in their village to exercise his ministry. So they reject him as some one with a special message. They even drive him out of their village and feel proud of doing this act. They were proud of being the first to have driven away a presumptuous upstart of a teacher. We live in the modern times. The life has become more exposed to the world view. The world view of today is something different. People do not consider religion and religious tenets as important. What is important today is to own the best in this world. And there are many best things that are developed and marketed. Money has taken upper hand and people are competing with each other to have more cash so that they can have the best. In the attempt of having more, people and feelings take back seat. People become less sensitive to the needs of people greed takes the upper seat than the need, thus so many tragedies are taking place. We as Christians are not respected because ours is a strange tribe who preach forgiveness, service, sacrifice, humility, love, sharing, harmony, unity etc. The world preaches, revenge, power, amassing of wealth, pride of being on the top, hate, break neck completion etc. When we participate in the Eucharist every Sunday and meditate on the word of God we become familiar with the Divine plan for us. We understand our own responsibility to proclaim the value of the kingdom in our daily activity. There are many temptations but if we become aware of God’s Spirit in our life we will surely be able to discern the type of life we have to live, then we can answer the question, is it for God or for the world where we live?
